Though you may be getting teased by some unseasonably warm days in your area, winter’s chill isn’t gone for good. But, why mourn the cold when you could be enjoying these final chilly weeks with a cozy cider cocktail in hand?

Here are a few of our favorite cider-infused cocktails to get you through the final feelings of winter:

Winter Cider Sangria

Consider this sangria recipe from Jack’s Hard Cider the next time you’re hosting friends. It’s a fruity, delicious drink that’s reminiscent of party punch, without being quite so boozy. An easy-drinking red wine blend and the subtle cinnamon, ginger, clove and vanilla spices in Jack’s Fireside Cider combine beautifully to create a perfect drink to share during these last few cold days of winter.

Lonetree Moscow Mule

https://www.instagram.com/p/BbSl-FkF7dB/?taken-by=lonetreecider

Love a Moscow Mule? Honestly, who doesn’t! Try Lonetree’s take on a classic Moscow Mule by using its fiery Ginger Apple Cider. Pro tip: Add a cinnamon stick for some extra spice.

Angry Spiced Rum

Hard cider and rum go together like, well, hard cider and rum. Mix up the following ingredients for the ultimate late-winter spiced rum cocktail from Angry Orchard.

Ingredients

  • 4 ounces Angry Orchard Crisp Apple
  • 1 ounce spiced rum
  • 0.5 ounce lime juice
  • 0.75 ounce simple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon allspice liqueur

Method

Shake ingredients together and strain into a rocks glass and garnish with an apple slice.

Great Lakes 75

https://www.instagram.com/p/BfV8g4Wjl_o/?taken-by=chdistillery

After being inspired by Chicago Cider Week, CH Distillery created this effervescent and full-bodied riff on a traditional French 75. Not able to grab these specific Chicago-based items? No problem! Use your own local versions to create your take on a French 75.

The Marshallatta

Kick up your cider game with a splash of tequila and a little haute sauce in Portland Cider’s Marshallatta cocktail. It’s a unique concoction with the perfect amount of spice.

Ingredients

Method

Salt 1/3 of the rim of a 10 oz. “bucket” glass, and fill with ice.

Hard shake all ingredients except cider in shaker tin.

Add 4 ounces cider, and swirl to incorporate all ingredients.

Pour over ice into the glass and garnish with a lime wedge.

Urban Tree Cidery’s Raspberry Jalapeno Frozen Cider Cocktail

Made with raspberry jalapeño syrup, freshly squeezed lime, fresh (or frozen) peaches, tequila and Urban Tree Cidery‘s Original Cider, this frosty treat doesn’t disappoint. We can, at least, turn up the heat and pretend it’s summer, right?

Ingredients

  • 1 fresh peach, sliced
  • 2 ounces Goza Tequila Blanco
  • 3 ounces raspberry jalapeno syrup (try this method and add in a few slices of fresh jalapeño)
  • 1 ounce fresh-squeezed lime juice
  • 1.5 cups ice
  • 1.5 ounces Urban Tree Original Cider

Method

Pour cider into a cocktail glass and set aside (and drink the rest, duh).

Place remaining ingredients in a blender with ice on top. Blend until smooth and pour into the cocktail glass with cider.

What are you drinking on New Year’s Eve this year? We can only assume that you’ll be sipping some fine ciders throughout the night. But, when midnight comes, break out an extra-special bottle to toast with!

Here are a few of our favorite large-format bottles that give Champagne a run for its money (and cost a lot less money, to boot!):

Citizen Cider bRosé

https://www.instagram.com/p/BX6MhMzAtGO/?taken-by=citizencider

Whether you’re getting the bros together for the night or you’re a rosé fan, give Citizen Cider‘s bRosé a try at the stroke of midnight. This cider rosé is made by three brothers in the great state of Vermont. It’s handcrafted by co-fermenting 100% Vermont blueberries and sweet cider pressed at Happy Valley Orchard in Middlebury, Vermont. And if your evening will also involve food (please don’t forget to eat!), Citizen Cider suggests pairing bRosé with lobster, blue cheese, aioli, bouillabaisse and tomato salad. Looking to score some bRosé? Find it here.

JK’s Farmhouse Cider Northern Neighbour

https://www.instagram.com/p/BZ06qJRntMi/?taken-by=jksfarmhouseciders

J.K.’s Farmhouse Ciders is a family-owned farm in Michigan that produces natural and organic cider. Its Northern Neighbours Farmhouse Cider was produced in partnership with its Saskatchewan neighbors. The addition of Saskatoon berries to the freshly pressed apple juice adds a more considerable complexity, with a smooth texture and luscious flavors plus a hint of tartness for balance. Get down with our neighbors to the north and toast to the new year! Find Northern Neighbours and more from J.K.’s by using its cider finder.

Far West Cider Co. Proper Dry

Every bottle of Far West Cider is a product of its fourth generation family farm in San Joaquin County, California.  That means that all of the apples used in its ciders are harvested and pressed by hand on site, as well as tended to throughout fermentation, aging and bottling. Proper Dry uses a mixed blend of tart apples to highlight the crisp and clean acidity that comes along with them. You’ll notice a squeaky-clean and fully dry finish as you pop this open at midnight. Use Far West Cider’s cider finder to grab a bottle near you.

BONUS: Argus Vinho Pearde

https://www.instagram.com/p/BS2ZnQBlxAm/?taken-by=arguscidery

Argus Cidery‘s Vinho Pearde is a one-of-a-kind perry achieved by using a lagering process. The result: sparkling clean pear on the palate. With tropical fruit notes on the nose, Vinho Pearde is medium-dry with a bit of residual sweetness and a slightly tart finish. Vinho Pearde is unfiltered, unpasteurized and free of any back-sweetening or added sugars. Pair this perry with a toast (and maybe a smooch!) as the ball drops! Find Argus Ciders in select states and retailers.

However you ring in the New Year, we wish you a grand time! Happy New Year!

As rosé wine and champagne continue to shine in the pink-tinted spotlight, rosé cider has fully taken the booze scene by storm, thanks to a bunch of cideries throughout the country. With its blushing hue and a wide range of flavor profiles, each rosé has its own personality.

So, no matter how or when you choose to drink it, pink is here to stay. Find our favorite rosé ciders below (no rosé-colored glasses necessary):

Angry Orchard

When Angry Orchard jumps on board, you know a trend has gone mainstream. Its rosé cider delivers the crisp and refreshing qualities of cider with a rosy color and floral aroma. Angry Orchard found a unique, red flesh apple in Brittany, France that contributes to the cider’s bright apple flavor and rosy hue.

rose cider

These super red apples were blended with the juices of six apple varieties and other ingredients, like a hint of hibiscus, to create a perfect rosé for spring and beyond: an unconventional, apple-forward style that brings a unique flavor for wine and cider drinkers, alike.

Citizen Cider bRosé

bRosé is inspired by and made by, you guessed it, three bros. in the great state of Vermont. This is a handcrafted cider made by co-fermenting 100% Vermont blueberries and sweet cider pressed at Happy Valley Orchard in Middlebury, Vermont. The blueberries are responsible for giving this cider its pink coloring. As Citizen Cider puts it, bRosé is the embodiment of cooperation: Blueberry and apple, summer and fall, farmers and cider makers. And, it sure tastes like teamwork; sweet success!

Shacksbury Rosé Cider

Meet Rosé, Shacksbury Cider‘s take on a pink-hued cider, which features 100% local fresh-pressed apples from Sunrise Orchards in Cornwall, Vermont. Post-fermentation, the cider ages on local California Syrah and Zinfandel grape skins, which lend flavor, color and tannin to the cider. The result? Shacksbury Rosé is a fun-loving, yet refined, cider that is as tasty as it is beautiful.

Wolffer Rosé Cider

Promised as “summer in a bottle,” Wolffer Cider‘s premium sparkling dry cider is a “reflection of soft summer hues of sunsets across the Hampton beaches.” This unique hard cider is sourced from six varieties of New York state dessert apples through a carefully selective taste test, ensuring each variety contributes to the cider’s distinctive character. In this case, the pink color comes from a dash of organic sweet potato extract that also serves to balance the cider’s sweetness. To increase its rosé qualities, this cider was made with wine yeast, as well as wine skins, to produce that classic coloring: glowing with a shiny rose color.

Bold Rock Rosé Cider

Bold Rock has created a fruit-forward rosé style cider with a crisp berry finish. With an emphasis on the classic berry notes of rosé wine, Bold Rock has given cider’s apple base a vibrant fresh finish similar to the grape-based counterpart. A wide variety of red apples and a naturally occurring pigment extract have been added to achieve its rosy color profile. And, just like the rest of its line up, Bold Rock’s rosé has 1/3 fewer calories than the majority of other ciders, which won’t counteract your #summerbod goals!

Eden Specialty Ciders Imperial 11° Rosé Cider

Eden‘s Imperial 11° Rosé Cider is created purely and only from apples and red currants. This means no added sugar, no added coloring or additional flavorings. Eden uses the cold winter weather in Northern Vermont to freeze concentrated juice before fermentation. Eden then co-ferments the juice with red currant to give the cider its fruity and tart flavoring and pink coloring.  The final product is lightly carbonated, full-flavored and pleasantly balanced. If you want a rosé cider to knock the socks of your friends who are natural wine fans, this is the one to serve them!

Original Sin Hard Cider Dry Rosé Cider

Original Sin created its Rosé Cider by using all New York apples, with its coloring coming from some time spent with grape skins. And it definitely lives up to the “dry” in its name, similar to champagne, along with a beautiful light pink color, a delicate nose and refreshing acidity.

Virtue Rosé Cider

Virtue Cider‘s summery pink drink features a blend of hand-pressed heirloom Michigan apples, including Jonathans, Golden Russet, McIntosh, Winesap, Ida Red and Northern Spy. After pressing, the apples are aged in French oak barrels. Floral, dry and crisp, Virtue Rosé offers aromas of grapefruit peel and unripened strawberry with a tart finish.

So which rosé will you be sipping when the sun decides to stick around for spring and summer?

As the big game approaches, it’s time to start thinking about how you’ll be able to enjoy all four quarters without having to worry too much about your food intake, drinking pace and hydration levels. It’s the perfect opportunity for session ciders: uncomplicated ciders with a low ABV and extreme sip-ability that allows you to drink until a winning player announces he’s heading to Disney World!

Here are our top session cider picks for game day:

Blake’s Grizzly Pear Cider

Pair a first down with Blake’s first pear hard cider, Grizzly Pear, coming in at 5% ABV. Blake’s melds soft notes of pear and prickly pear cactus balanced with a sharp apple finish and a hint of elderflower. And don’t worry, no bears were harmed in the making of this product!

The flagship hard cider is inspired by freshly pressed cider from the farm, and it is left unfiltered for a full body and smooth finish. And with an ABV of 5.1%, you and your friends will be sure to make it past halftime.

Jack’s Hard Cider’s Helen’s Blend

Meet Jack’s Hard Cider’s Helen’s Blend on the field for a fruit-forward low ABV cider option. At only 4.5% ABV, you’ll taste a balance of natural acids and sugars with a super-smooth finish.

Fall is (finally) here! Between living up autumn life with apple and pumpkin picking, flannel everything, cold-weather recipes — and all of the aforementioned captured on your friends’ Instagram feeds — we bet you’re cracking open a lot of cider.

With so many seasonal ciders hitting shelves and draft lines, it’s time to add some new stuff to your weekly rotation. Here are five of our recommendations of the craft ciders you should be drinking right now:

Shacksbury Vermonter

https://www.instagram.com/p/B2mT5zpl7UE/

These gorgeous 16-ounce cans of cider just scream “GET OUT AND ENJOY THE FALL!” Shacksbury crated Vermonter as an ode to the Green Mountain State, a blend of local apples from Sunrise Orchards in Cornwall, VT that’s then aged in former Barr Hill gin barrels from Caledonia Spirits in Hardwick, VT. At 6.9% ABV, you don’t want to chug too many of these on a hike, but a cold one tucked into your backback is the perfect reward for climbing to the top of a mountain (or hill, whichever works for you).

Finnriver Forest Ginger

https://www.instagram.com/p/B2XT0bmgcB8/

WE SAID GINGER! Well, we were thinking it, and it looks like the folks at Finnriver Farm & Cidery read our minds. The zesty bite of ginger is a natural pair with Certified Organic Washington apples, like Granny Smith, Pink Lady, Braeburn and Gala. The cider is fermented until dry, then steeped with locally harvested Doug Fir tips and other evergreen needles, then infused with organic gingerroot and sweetened up a touch with unrefined organic cane sugar. Herbal, earthy and a little spicy, this is true fall fabulousness in a glass, especially when paired with autumnal meals like mushroom risotto and hearty stews.

Blue Bee Cider Harvest Ration

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bt7UOdWFcDT/

Fall is time for the apple harvest, and this awesome brandy-fortified dessert cider from Blue Bee Cider is a wonderful way to celebrate it. Plus, at 18% ABV, it’s perfect for a little extra warmth on cold nights. Made from bittersweet apples and given a lengthy cask-aging, Harvest Ration is usually not available until a year after the initial harvest of the fruit!

Square Mile Rosé Apple Cider

https://www.instagram.com/p/B2pmxhgFxxR/

Think rosé cider is just for summer? No way! You can enjoy crispy pink cider all year long, as far as we’re concerned. Square Mile‘s Rosé Apple Cider, made with rose hips and hibiscus flowers, is created with Red Delicious, Yellow Delicious and Johnny Gold apples, picked and pressed by hand in Oregon. This is a nicely balanced beverage fermented with a lager yeast, resulting in both sweet and tart flavors and a refreshing finish.

Snow Capped Honeycrisp Cider

https://www.instagram.com/p/BZUiztSDOa3/

Made from the much-hyped dessert apple, Snow Capped’s Honeycrisp contains the perfect balance of sweetness and acidity to create a truly one-of-a-kind taste experience. You’ll also notice a hint of molasses, to sweeten and satisfy. All of Snow Capped Cider’s products are created using apples grown on its family farm, which is over 100 years old. Its Colorado altitude of 6,180 feet means warm days and cool nights, creating the perfect conditions for growing superior apples.

Courthouse Creek Cider released its Blackberry Lavender cider on Friday, July 13, and throughout the weekend at its two locations: the farm in Maidens, Va. and its newest space in Richmond, Va., Scott’s Addition District.

The Blackberry Lavender cider was aged in bourbon and neutral wine barrels for six months, and then infused with local blackberries and fresh lavender. As with all of its ciders, Courthouse Creek Black Lavender Cider is produced by a rustic method: aged on wood, without any sulfites or preservatives, and left unfiltered. It finishes dry.

At Courthouse Creek Cider, the team isn’t just growers, but they’re also stewards of the land, trees and fruit. Their cider-making philosophy is simple: “Do our best to let the fruit speak for itself, and add a loving twist here and there!”

Courthouse Creek Cider is the vision of a family sharing common goals and values, blended together to produce heartfully crafted, Virginia cider.

You can find Courthouse Creek Cider at 3300 W. Broad St. #106, Richmond, Virginia or at 1581 Maidens Rd., Maidens, Virginia.

This summer, Germany’s most popular cider, Bembel-With-Care®, will host two educational events in two of the United States’ most prestigious museums: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania’s Franklin Institute and Washington, DC’s Smithsonian.

Bembel-With-Care® has produced cider in Germany since 2007, when it saw the time-honored beverage was starting to gain traction with wine and beer drinkers, alike. Bembel-With-Care®’s founder and owner, Benedikt Kuhn, began adding carbonation to his Apfelwein, turning away from the German tradition of producing flat, sometimes dull ciders. Kuhn’s Bembel-With-Care® quickly bridged the gap between redefining a classic beverage and preserving its cultural heritage, while making sparkling hard cider increasingly accessible and delicious.

Fresh from its first-place finish at the 21st Great International Beer, Cider, Mead & Sake Competition for its Apfelwein Kirsch flavor, Bembel-With-Care®, led by Kuhn and importer Lars Dahlhaus, has taken America by storm, and these summer events are a fun showcase for this artful expression of Germany’s storied cider-making tradition.

On Tuesday, June 26, Bembel-With-Care® joins the Franklin Institute’s Science After Hours series. Kuhn will take guests behind the scenes of the handcrafted process of cider making and apple pressing during “8-Bit,” an engaging look at the worlds of fan-favorite video games. “Players” are invited to visit the museum between 7 and 10 p.m. to enjoy live-gaming experiences, a silent disco and more. Plus, guests will be able to meet Kuhn and sample his award-winning Apfelweins. Click here for more information on the 8-Bit offerings, plus admission rates.

Then, on Friday, July 6, Kuhn and Dahlhaus will host an expert panel on the history and making of Apfelwein at The Smithsonian’s S. Dillon Ripley Center. Beginning at 7 p.m., Kuhn and Dahlhaus will join cider makers and journalists Ronald Sansone and William Grote to chat about the past and future of the artisanal German beverage, followed by a tasting of Bembel-With-Care®’s portfolio, including its award-winning Kirsch, as well as Apfelwein Pur, a classic all-natural dry apple cider and Apfelwein Cola, a sweet caffeinated cider infused with cola. All three ciders are naturally gluten-free and vegan. Tickets are $25 for members and $35 for non-members; click here to purchase.
